Shillong Earthquake Poem

Today I learned
That concrete is not so concrete,
That we run out, not in,
That I no longer envy
My neighbour’s mansion.
He stands next to me panting
Barefoot, in the dirt of the street,
Glancing nervously at the tall lamppost.
